The Taste of Tyranny
Categories: Corruption, Liberty
“The country can withstand that,” he said. “The economy can withstand that.”
Take this gooey little nugget of wisdom, let it marinate in your mouth for a moment. Roll it over on your tongue and taste the complexity – what you are tasting, my friends, is tyranny.
Would you like some context to go with that tyranny? This was uttered by our own tax-cheatin’ Treasury Secretary, Tim Geithner. He was addressing the Bush “tax cuts for the wealthy”.The Democrats are set to let those tax cuts expire at the end of the year, because, as we all know, “rich” people are evil and don’t deserve to keep their money. They owe it to the greater good to bend over and let the government have its way with them.
But I digress. I am disturbed by Geithner’s quote, in and of itself, for in that simple statement, he removed all doubt in my mind about how the governing class views you and I. We are no longer individuals. We are a “country” and an “economy”.We exist solely to serve the collective. Whether or not any one single American will be injured by their actions is of little consequence, so long as the whole of the country and economy is able to withstand its onslaught.
There is no more chilling, destructive and murderous belief in history, than that of collectivism. Everyone’s favorite collectivist, Adolf Hitler, once said: “…we understand only the individual’s capacity to make sacrifices for the community, for his fellow men.“(10/7/33) We all know how that ended. Now compare that quote with one from our own Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton: “We’re going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good.” (6/28/04)
Two sides of the same coin, wouldn’t you say? Yet Hitler is evil, because we know what the outcome was. We do not yet know the outcome of our current state of collectivism – but what makes us believe it will be any different this time around? As the old adage goes, those who do not learn from history, are doomed to repeat it.
Our rights of “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness” are individual rights. When a government begins to preach collectivism, they are on the march towards denying the people their God-given rights. They are trampling on that which they were instituted solely to protect. Our government has become tyrannical. Far too many Americans are just too apathetic to realize it. Or maybe just too apathetic to care.
Lastly, the word “withstand” is disturbing. I ask, does that word portray something positive? Can something withstand a destructive force, and come out better than before? Not often. My house can withstand a lightning strike, but chances are all my electronics, furnace and light fixtures will be fried. Same with this economy. It might withstand the tax increases, but will it’s internal components – the individuals – be damaged to such a degree that it will struggle simply to survive, all hope of growth and prosperity fried like my flat screen? If Tim Geithner and friends were truly interested in growing this economy and creating prosperity, they would not be instituting policies that force individuals to unplug their appliances and batten down the hatches against the impending storm.
This government is now judge, jury and executioner. They alone decide how much of our individual labor we are allowed to reap. They decide who wins and who loses. They are betting on the American people remaining apathetic, content to lose their God-given liberties bit by bit – for the greater good, of course.
They can take that bet and shove it. They have awakened the sleeping giant – and the Momma Grizzlies. Against us, they don’t stand a chance.
